This is a fitspo and/or health blog that I’m using to keep up with my workouts, my progress on becoming more muscular, and also other miscellaneous health topics.
I am currently in remission from colorectal cancer, which was diagnosed back in October 2011. No, my cancer didn’t come as a result of eating too many hotdogs, or being unhealthy… I have a gene that runs in my family called Lynch Syndrome, and so far I’m the youngest in my family to develop this sort of cancer (I had a distant cousin that died of brain cancer at 16, but Lynch Syndrome doesn’t give you brain cancer, so hopefully I’m safe from that)
On April 25th I became an “ostomate” which means I have an ostomy. An ostomy is pretty much a poop bag that’s put on a person that does not have a rectum and/or all of their intestines. There are two different kinds - a Colostomy and an Ileostomy. Colostomies are attached to the large intestine (this is if only part of the colon has been removed and the rest is still functional), while Ileostomies are attached to the small intestine (done when the patient no longer has a colon). I have a permanent Ileostomy.
After my surgery I took two months to recover, but once the two months were up I began a six month regiment of preventive chemotherapy, which has kept me from working out for basically the rest of 2012.
In January 2013 I’m getting a new start though and I’ll go back to being the active person I used to be!
